We Love Our Magic Stix - A Review and Giveaway

This post contains affiliate links.

Since we first tried no-mess, quick dry, tempera paint sticks from The Pencil Grip, Inc., we decided we loved the company's well-designed, family-friendly art supplies.  So, when we were offered a chance to review a 24 pack of their Magic Stix Washable Markers and to run a giveaway so one lucky reader here could try a complimentary set, too, we immediately said, "Yes!"

Now, you might be wondering, Markers?  What could be so unique about markers, and why would these Magic Stix be different or better than any other markers out there?

I admit it:  I was wondering that very same thing when we were given the chance to review Magic Stix Washable Markers, but I knew there had to be something fresh and smart about the markers' design or The Pencil Grip, Inc.  would not be selling them.

Now, after nearly six weeks of almost daily use, I can attest that there are, indeed, ways that Magic Stix stand out among other markers we have used.  How? They are:

  • unscented.  I am super sensitive to strange and different smells and appreciated that these markers have no distinguishable odor.
  • long-lasting.  No cap?  No problem. Big coloring block on your paper?  A-okay!  We just loved that we could use these markers at length - and even allow little ones to uncap them - without worry.  They have been proven by others not to dry out for even days or more!
  • non-toxic.  We do a lot of activities with babies to grown ups, so having art supplies that won't hurt anyone is key for us!
  • bright, bold colors!  The selection of 24 bold colors has suited my children, friends, and me just fine.  Black, gray, shades of browns, greens, blues, yellow, reds, and more... Perfect!

  • contained.  All three of my children and I loved the durable plastic mini "suitcase" that these markers come in.  It opens flat and each marker easily snaps in and out of its own individual spot to keep the markers neat and together.
  • washable.  I did not have a chance to test this myself, but I followed other Homeschool Crew Review families that did and you can peek at their reviews to see the results!
  • sturdy.  We've used them on our own with friends on wood, cardboard, on paper, inside and out, with little hands and big hands...  They hold up so well!

Our Magic Stix Washable Markers have become our go-to markers at home and when we head out to friends' home, classes, and co-ops.

What the Kids Said

I like Magic Stix! I've been using them about once or twice or week.  I like they have so many shades of the same color, like yellows, greens, blues, and browns.  It makes layering colors better for leaves, skies, wood, and things.  I also like that the tip is thin, and you can leave the caps off for some time without them drying out.  The carrying case is cool, too. It's like a little suit case.  I think the markers are good for using anywhere.

Magic Stix are great for the whole family! Their case is easy to carry around.  The markers have a fine tip and don't run out when you draw and color a lot, making them good for both drawing and coloring big blocks of space.  You also don't have to worry if a baby gets them and leaves the cap off for a while, because they won't dry out for a long time.  There are a wide variety of colors so you an make darker scenes, brighter scenes, happy scenes, sad scenes...  You can draw an exploding volcano destroying Pompeii or a field full of imaginary unicorns, because all of the colors are there.

I have used Magic Stix almost every day since we got them.  I have drawn pictures, made Lenten promises, checked off days on my Lenten path sheet, colored things in, done art lessons, made a game, and more.  I choose these markers over others because they don't dry out and are easy to access.  I am glad we got them and enjoy sharing them with our friends.

Magic Stix are great for families and friends!  Their caps are all the same colors, so you don't have to worry about putting the right cap on the right marker.  Instead, you look at the main section of the marker to find out the color.  Each marker is easy to see, because the markers come in a special case that looks like a see-through suit case.

I like how the markers are not big fat markers and are not super skinny.  They are medium-sized, so they are easy to hold, and the top point is not fat, so you can do fine details with it or use the side of the tip to get thicker lines.

What I really like is there is a black, a gray, a gold, and lots of greens, blues, reds, and pinks.  The different colors and shades allow you to make patterns and bright, colorful, drawings.

I also think it is cool that Magic Stix don't bleed or make mushy, gross, browny colors when you color with one color over another. You can see the first color through the second color, giving pictures more interest with layers and texture. Blending two colors to get a new color is harder though. There is a little of it, but these markers definitely layer more than blend.

I know that other kids will enjoy Magic Stix, because we have used them with our friends from two year olds to twelve year olds, plus Moms.   One time was funny, because a two year old kept pulling off the caps, but we didn't have to worry, because these markers don't dry out as quickly as other ones.  At another playdate, because the markers come in the suitcase and the suitcase has little sections for each markers, we knew we were missing one right away and could find it.  The carrying case and the marker design make them convenient.

I have used Magic Stix every day and, quite frankly, I am using them right now while I narrate to Mom.  Enjoy!

Without question,
Magic Stix are my chidlren's favorite markers nowI am delighted with how they grab-and-go with them, unleashing all sorts of creativity...

Given tools like and imagination - plus the time and pace for a little mess - they create such fantastic things.
